Welcome To Outdoor Cooking

As a young woman camper, one of the happiest moments of my travels is enjoying the food I cook. Easy and enjoyable meals in a camping environment always bring me joy. On this journey, I want to ensure that you’re not alone and help you along the way.
In this blog, I welcome you to the world of campfire cooking, where every meal is an adventure. We are gonna learn how to not starve in the nature.
Campfire Cooking Basics
There are a few important preparations for cooking at camp. One of them is to plan what you want to eat during the camp before you leave and pack accordingly. I make sure my equipment, food, and canned goods are complete before heading to camp. Here is my list:
- Pan: Perfect for frying and boiling.
- Tongs: Essential for holding hot food.
- Portable Stove: Convenient for quick and controlled cooking.
- Compact Cutlery: Lightweight and easy to pack.
- Cutting Board: Provides a stable surface for food preparation.
- Plates and Cups: Durable and reusable for a sustainable camping experience.
- Campfire Starters: Essential equipment such as lighters and kindling.

In general, you can prepare your meals in two different ways. If you want to cook with fire, start by digging a fire pit at a safe distance from your tent. Keeping weather conditions in mind, you should orient your fire pit against the wind so that ashes are not blown into the tent.
Here are three different methods I use for cooking over a fire:
The Grill Method:
Place a stick or portable grill over the fire. This method is great for grilling meat and vegetables.
Three-Legged Pendulum Device:
Create a makeshift tripod using sturdy branches. Hang a pot or pan over the fire for controlled cooking, ideal for stews and soups.
Stone Cooking:
Use a flat, thin stone placed directly over the fire. This method is perfect for cooking foods such as pancakes or roast meat.
As a second option, you can use a portable stove, which I prefer, as it offers a convenient and reliable option for camp cooking, especially when open flames are not possible.
